INTERMET CORPORATION ANNOUNCES ADDITION OF ROBERT AXE TO EXECUTIVE TEAM
FT. WORTH, Texas - Jan. 30, 2008 - Intermet Corporation, one of the world's leading
manufacturers of cast-metal automotive components, today announced the appointment
of Robert "Bob" Axe as Group President, Die Cast Group.
In this capacity, Axe has overall responsibility for Intermet's Die Casting operations,
reporting directly to Jeff Mihalic, president & CEO, Intermet Corporation.
Axe has extensive experience in the manufacturing sector with American Honda Motor
Company, Inc., where he held multiple positions over the past 24 years.
Most recently, Axe held the position of Vice President and Plant Manager for Honda's
Marysville (Ohio) Motorcycle Plant, the company's only motorcycle plant in North America.
Prior to that, he spent five years as an Assistant Vice President of North American
Purchasing, where his responsibilities included providing supplier support, handling new
model activities and supplier lean initiatives.
Formerly, Axe held the position of Vice President in charge of the start-up of a new
green field site for a grey and ductile Iron Foundry for Asama Coldwater (Michigan)
Manufacturing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Honda.
Axe began his career as a Project Leader for Honda's Anna (Ohio) Engine Plant start-up
for die casting, where he lead the die casting department for 10 years in engineering and
management in high pressure, low pressure and gravity casting.
Axe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering with a minor in
Mechanical Engineering from the University of Dayton.
"The addition of such an experienced professional to Intermet's executive team
significantly strengthens our company," said Jeff Mihalic. "His appointment will allow us
to accelerate over lean manufacturing initiatives and continue our evolution to a more
customer-focused company that responds quickly to ever-changing customer
requirements."
